Jemma’s interest in wine began in 2004/2005 while working in the drinks industry, backpacking around Australia. During this time, Jemma visited some world class wine regions such as; Barossa Valley, Margaret River, Swan Valley and Yarra Valley. Upon her return to the UK, Jemma embarked on a graduate management traineeship with one of the UK’s leading national wine retailers. Alongside her studies, Jemma achieved a WSET Advanced level 3 certificate in wines and spirits before completing the prestigious WSET level 4 diploma.
At the end of 2012, Jemma gained a management position with a luxury fine wines company based in Dubai. Here, Jemma became familiar with, and took an interest in sake through working with the product. Keen to learn more about sake, Jemma booked herself onto the Sake Sommelier Association Certified Sommelier course in London in 2015.
Since the course, Jemma has taken a serious interest in learning more about premium Japanese Sake. She recently founded Utrecht Wine School and its sister company, Ikigai Sake – both based in the Netherlands. Within her schools, Jemma plans to offer SSA courses to students and promote sake wine. She is excited for this new business development and proud to work alongside the Sake Sommelier Association as a SSA certified sake educator.
