Khail Van Niekerk

Born and raised in a wine region of South Africa, it was perhaps inevitable that Khail would join the wine industry. Qualified with WSET Level 3 since 2013, Khail is also a certified WSET educator. Starting in the industry as a sales manager for some of the premier wine estates in South Africa, Khail specialises in innovative food and wine pairings and has worked as a consultant in the Maldives since 2018, collaborating with top luxury hotels to create memorable experiences. Khail takes every opportunity to travel to wine regions across the globe regularly and can be found wherever good food and great wines are enjoyed together. Khail is excited to embrace sake culture and promote it within the Maldives.

Operating since 2003 under Lily International Pvt. Ltd., Grape Expectations Pvt. Ltd. went solo in 2012 absorbing Lily’s entire portfolio of beer and wine. Under the new company, growth took off rapidly with portfolio additions such as spirits, sake, beverages, cigars, shisha, glassware and accessories. They are leaders in the field of wine, bar & beer education and consulting and now add sake to that list.
