It's been a fantastic year for our Sake Challenges 🍶

Over the weekend we had amazing events in Luxembourg 🇱🇺 and Singapore 🇸🇬 to join our Milano 🇮🇹 event back in June, to round off the year's #SakeChallenges

Looking back we're wowed at receiving almost 1000 entries to our Sake Challenges, all judged by our amazingly passionate Sake Sommeliers 🤵

With Sake Sommelier education now spread across 6 continents 🗺️ and our Sake Challenges following as each market grows with more Sake Sommeliers ready to judge how entries will fit into their local cultures & cuisines 🍝 Sake Challenges are now the most widespread sake competitions in the world!

With sake exports from Japan 🇯🇵 growing and international sake breweries becoming more prestigious - it's never been a better time for a Sake Challenge 🌟 we're now assessing the next possible locations to ensure that sake's popularity continues to rocket 🚀

We’re thrilled to introduce our new Advanced Sake Sommelier, Mr. Tom Hart @goochyloochy who earned his Advanced Sake Sommelier qualification at Watanabe Brewery in Gifu @sake_hourai 🇯🇵

Tom is a part of our Sake Educator team in Australia 🇦🇺 who joined the course to deepen his knowledge of the art of sake; with a mission to normalise its consumption across Australia, promote its accessibility, and most importantly: make sake fun🍶 We can't wait to see where his sake journey will take him next. Congratulations, Tom 🎉

We would like to extend especial thanks to our partners at Watanabe Brewery for warmly welcoming Tom and guiding him through the world of sake brewing, sharing their skills and knowledge throughout the course 📚

The Advanced Sake Sommelier® course is designed to create a focused and immersive environment within a brewery. Sake prayers have been answered in the City of Angeles🪽

The SSA's California team is growing, with Greg Beck @sakesecret joining the @fifth_taste team to deliver our world renowned Sake Sommelier courses to students across Los Angeles 🇺🇸

Greg has been working with (and drinking!) sake for 2 decades, reaching back to when his time studying abroad near Kobe, Japan 🗾 He then continued to live in Hiroshima 🇯🇵 for 5 years - where he made sure to never miss the Saijo Sake Matsuri - Hiroshima's biggest festival 🎊 Greg brings years of sake experience & knowledge to his courses 📚
He also runs Sake Secret, a sake speciality store in Long Beach ⛱️ Los Angeles; he's always available to recommend another sake to try - kanpai! 🍶

Fifth Taste sake is headed up by Jesse Pugach in San Francisco 🌉 importing a fantastic range of sake and providing great #SakeSommelier education to customers across California 🇺🇸

We are thrilled to announce the graduation of Haid

We are thrilled to announce the graduation of Haidar Hachem @the_thirsty_samurai from our Master of Sake course 📚

Haidar has established the first sake bar & brewery @shojosdojo in Florida, USA 🇺🇸 Besides crafting beer, he is a self-taught sake brewer who travelled to Japan 🇯🇵 to master authentic sake-making techniques 🍶 Through our program at Nishiyama Brewery @kotsuzmi in Hyogo, he's learnt amazing sake brewing skills! Reflecting on his experience, Haidar added, "The course experience was life-changing and has also changed my way of thinking" 💬

We extend our special gratitude to our partners at Nishiyama Brewery for their passion and guidance throughout Haidar’s Master of Sake course. Established in 1849, Nishiyama Brewery has been innovating while preserving tradition for over 200 years. The 'Koden,' a modern complex showcasing traditional sake brewing and fermentation techniques, will open soon, This facility will feature a liquor and sweets shop, cafe, restaurant, lodging, and hands-on seminars on alcohol and fermentation.

Our Master of Sake is a focused apprenticeship at one of our partner sake breweries, studying the specifics of the ancient art of sake and discovering how a modern brewery functions, with a great insider's view of the tireless work of a sake brewer! We offer the course with selected sake brewery partners in Japan 🗾 and in English with @zenkurosake 🇳🇿

今回の開催地は、兵庫県丹波の老舗酒蔵、西山酒造場です。Haidarさんは米国フロリダ出身のビールと日本酒の醸造家で、フロリダ初のバー&醸造所🍶を経営されており、本格的な日本酒の醸造を学ぶために、コースを受講しました。

SSA研修生の受け入れをして下さった西山酒造場に深く感謝いたします。西山酒造場は1849年に創業し、175年にわたり伝統を守り続けながら、革新を重ねてきました。今年新たに、古くからの酒造りの技術と、自然豊かな地元の恵みを体感できる発酵複合施設「鼓傳」がオープン予定です。この施設には、酒類とスイーツのショップ、カフェ、レストラン、宿泊施設が備わり、日本酒や発酵文化を深く学べるワークショップも開催されます。

『Master of Sake (マスター・オブ・酒)®』は、伝統的な酒造りを学び、醸造家を育成することを目的とした資格取得コースです。オンラインの事前研修から始まり、実際に酒醸造所で蔵人と2ヵ月間過ごすことで、日本の歴史や文化、地域と風土、自然に触れ、杜氏や蔵人たちの技と熱意を学び、日本酒の理解を深めます。開催は、厳選されたSSAの酒蔵パートナ―、英語のコースも@zenkuroで開催中です。🇯🇵🇳🇿
